New Apartment & Moving in a Pandemic
First week in my new apartment in the middle of COVID-19
Right before this pandemic truly began, I had two trips planned with family I was greatly looking forward to. About the same time, my lease came up for renewal and I chose to move to a new, smaller apartment in my building with slightly lower rent after three years in one place. I wasn’t finding anything else, and I do normally love my neighborhood and was close to my offices, fitness studios I love and was going to, just a few blocks away from the Katy Trail (a running trail in Dallas) along with restaurants bars & shops in the West Village.
My family was planning to come down to help me move since it is definitely not one of my better skills. I also needed to downsize significantly, and overall needed & wanted a major update to my apartment which still had furniture I had when I graduated college. I was looking forward to all of these events, and excited for a little travel and an apartment re-fresh. Then COVID-19 hit.
Along with some support from my family (both emotional and financial), professional movers and a handyman (via a family friend) was able to get through the move in one piece, successfully.
Made it through my first move in a pandemic
Pictured above are a few images from the first few nights in my new place. I will share more of the before and after as I go.
I got a new rug & coffee table for my living room before my move, and have been slowly working to find and replace other items. Just yesterday, I installed a new IKEA media console with storage along with a few smaller items (a new bath runner, some fresh pillows, new throw pillows and blankets, a fake tree and have some new patio furniture on the way.
Most of these updates were necessary at this stage but moving also managed to give me a purpose throughout some of the harder days and small achievements can give me huge feelings of accomplishment (hanging three frames in line above my bed was no small feat).
This blog was originally intended for me to write about the travel I was doing, but since I knew I could only afford to travel so much I also wanted to explore restaurants, bars and shops locally, and elsewhere and find a place to use the thousands of photos I take everywhere I go.
I am still working on putting those together, but for now, I hope you’ll follow along as I work on updating my new apartment and doing my best to turn it into a home I am happy living in - especially since it is now my home, my office, fitness studio, etc that all of our homes have become over the last few months.
