Exploring Los Angeles: The Best Neighborhoods, Restaurants & Shopping Spots

Los Angeles is a city known for its diversity and vibrant culture. With so many neighborhoods to explore, restaurants to indulge in, and shopping opportunities to satisfy your retail cravings, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. But fear not, as we have curated a list of some of the best neighborhoods, restaurants, and shopping spots in Los Angeles for you to explore.

Neighborhoods to Explore

  1. Venice Beach: Known for its boardwalk, stunning beach, and vibrant street art, Venice Beach is a must-visit neighborhood. Take a stroll along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, check out the beautiful homes along the Venice Canals and enjoy trendy shops and boutiques along Abbott Kinney Blvd.

  2. Santa Monica: This hip and trendy neighborhood is a favorite among the locals. Explore the trendy boutiques, coffee shops, and enjoy the beautiful oceanfront views. Don’t forget to check out the famous boardwalk, a hub for live music and unique eateries.

  3. West Hollywood: Known for its lively nightlife, West Hollywood is the place to be if you’re looking for a good time. Explore the shopping along Melrose, or the Sunset Strip, dine at upscale restaurants, and dance the night away at trendy clubs. Also, an excellent neighborhood for beautiful home décor and interior design showrooms.

  4. Brentwood: Known for its quiet residential vibe, check out the Brentwood Country Market with a variety of shops and food to choose from.

  5. Manhattan Beach: Farther south, this neighborhood is a bit of a drive, but a picturesque beachside community that is rapidly growing. Venture down Manhattan Beach Boulevard for plenty of shops and dining. Nick’s Manhattan beach is an excellent restaurant to try if you find yourself here.

Restaurants to Indulge In

  1. Hatchet Hall: This family-owned and run Venice restaurant offers some of the best farm-to-table food you’ll find in LA. Whether you sit in the covered garden, inside or check out the speakeasy bar in the back, you’re sure to have an incredible meal. The menu is updated regularly, but don’t skip the corn bread if you can.

  2. élephante: Located in Santa Monica, Elephante is a scene to be seen. Their Italian inspired menu offers an array of delicious pastas, pizzas, cocktails and more. Their whipped eggplant dip was an especially tasty option to start. Both the scene and the views from this restaurant make it worth the visit.

  3. Fia: This stunning Santa Monica restaurant sits next door to its steakhouse, in a beautiful, partially open garden setting under the lights. The food is spectacular, and the waitstaff is incredibly knowledgeable, and no matter what you order, you’ll have an excellent meal.

  4. Scopa Italian Roots: Classic Italian food with an upscale feel. Beautiful interior setting and a covered outdoor seating area, this restaurant almost feels like you’ve been transported back to New York City. The rigatoni with ricotta and spicy vodka sauce was too good to leave behind a single bite. If you like desserts the mini cannoli hit the spot perfectly.

  5. Gjelina: Gourmet Italian food located on Abbott Kinney in Venice Beach. We only tried two salads as we had dinner shortly after, but the pizzas looked divine. Next time I visit, I will absolutely be trying one.

  6. Urth Café: A local chain, Urth Café has an excellent selection of breakfast and lunch items to satisfy any craving. Try their banana poppyseed muffin, egg white scramble or their spectacular French toast.

  7. Erewhon Market: Less of a restaurant, and more of a high-end grocery store, Erewhon offers a wide variety of products, prepared foods and freshly made smoothies. I caved and had to try the TikTok famous coconut cloud smoothie and was not disappointed. While you might feel some sticker shock, you’ll find something to satisfy every craving.

Shopping Spots to Satisfy Your Retail Cravings

  1. Abbott Kinney Drive: This strip of stores in Venice has a hipster look, until you walk inside the most stunning stores of all kinds. I personally found the stores themselves more exciting than anything in them, though plenty had wonderful pieces to buy. Many stores incorporated outdoor spaces into renovated old building spaces, with gorgeous backyard settings and porches hidden past the front doors.

  2. Melrose Avenue: Known for its trendy shops and boutiques, Melrose Avenue offers a unique shopping experience. You’ll find a variety of stores, coffee shops and restaurants to spend your time.

  3. Brentwood Country Mart: Situated right in Brentwood, this unique bar-style exterior is home to small shops of larger stores, like Sezane, James Perse, Jenni Kayne and more. It also houses cute food stands, a coffee shop, and Farmshop, a restaurant and high-end prepared food store.

  4. Rodeo Drive: This famous street in Beverly Hills is known for its luxury shopping. Browse through high-end fashion boutiques and soak in the glamorous atmosphere.

  5. The Grove: Located next to the Original Farmers Market, The Grove is a premier shopping destination with a mix of high-end and mid-range stores. Enjoy outdoor shopping, catch a movie at the theater, and dine at one of their many restaurants.
